According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.
As we ramp up our efforts to clean the streets of our city, please take the time to also clean out your medicine cabinets during our DEA National Take Back Day.
Take Back Day is a national effort to safely and anonymously dispose of any unused prescription medicines to avoid potential poisoning, misuse, and overdose. Unused prescriptions can easily fall into the wrong hands, as they can be stolen from the medicine cabinet or retrieved from the trash. Furthermore, do not flush any medication because they can contaminate the water supply.
Come out and dispose any unused prescription medications safely and anonymously!
