Caltrans Projects Along Hwy 74/Riverside Drive
Safety Project and Emergency Work Underway
This month, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) kicked off two projects within the City's limits. Both projects are currently underway.
1. State Route 74 Safety Project with ADA Upgrades - This is a safety project to upgrade sidewalks and ramps along State Route 74 (SR-74), also knows as Riverside Drive and Grand Avenue, in Lake Elsinore. This project will reconstruct 21 curb ramps, driveways and other pedestrian facilities at various locations from just east of Lakeshore Drive to Macy Street to bring existing facilities up to the appropriate American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The work is only on westbound SR-74 and working hours are 7:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Construction is expected to take approximately 60 work days, weather permitting.
2. Emergency Work on State Route 74 in Lake Elsinore - Emergency work on State Route 74 (SR-74), also known as Ortega Highway, has started at Post Mile Marker 9 to remove debris, begin rock scaling and slope stabilization. A one-way flagging operation will continue until the contractor, Granite Construction, Inc., can widen and pave the right shoulder to allow access to vehicles in both directions. The contractor is anticipating that the shoulder widening and paving will be complete over the next three days. The speed limit in the work zone will be set to 25 mph. Please be advised, lengthy delays are anticipated. If possible, use an alternate route. The completion date for the emergency repairs and construction hours are currently unknown.
