Caltrans Improving Hwy 74, Expected to Cause Delays

Project to last several months.

On Monday, September 23, Caltrans began construction on their Hwy 74/Riverside Drive Slurry Seal & Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

The limits of the project extend between Dexter Ave, (East of the I-15 Freeway) to just west of Grand Ave. please see illustration/exhibit below.

During construction, lane closures are anticipated and will impact surrounding roadways including extending to Cambern Ave. on Central Ave. Lane closures would be between construction hours, which are currently 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

This Caltrans improvement project is expected to be completed by Dec. 2019 depending on weather or other unanticipated delays.

The City is currently seeking additional information and improved schedules to provide up-to-date, regular information to our community about potential impacts and delays on our roadways.

Below is the current proposed schedule (subject to change):  

  • September 23 – September 27 – Grinding of Thermoplastic Striping (i.e. removal of existing striping)
  • October 7 – October 14 – Removal of deteriorated pavement within the limits of the project.
  • October 14 – October 21 – Crack seal the roadway in preparation for Slurry Seal. 
  • October 21 – December 1* – Slurry Seal and pavement rehabilitation activities
