2020 Election Information
Nomination period begins July 13, election takes place November 3, 2020
The 2020 General Municipal Election will take place on November 3, 2020.
This will be the second By-District election in Lake Elsinore's history. On February 1, 2018, the City switched from At-Large elections (all registered voters get to vote for all open seats) to By-District elections (only registered voters in the district seat which is open get to vote for that seat).
This year, in November, there will be three (3) seats up for election on the City Council for District 2, 4 and 5 and one (1) seat for City Treasurer. Not sure what District you live in? Find your District by entering your address on the City's interactive map.
The City of Lake Elsinore encourages its residents to get out and vote. Below are some key dates to keep in mind for the election, updates will be made regularly as needed.

Interested in Running for a Seat?
Candidates for all positions must live in the boundaries of the City of Lake Elsinore, be at least 18 years old and a registered voter. Council Candidates must live in the District in which they are running.
The nomination period to file for open City seats will be from Monday, July 13 to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7. To submit a request to verify eligibility and request an appointment with the City Clerk, please complete the Candidate Eligibility and Nomination Appointment Request Form. Write-In Candidacy begins on September 7th.

- Write-In Candidate Nominations: September 7 - October 20
- Voter Information Guides Mailed To Voters: September 24 - October 13
- Vote-By-Mail Ballots Start Being Mailed: October 5
- Early Voting Period: October 5 to November 2
- Election Day: Nov. 3
City Election Information:
Lake Elsinore is a General Law city governed by a five-member City Council. Members of the City Council are elected by-district and the City Treasurer is elected at-large for a four-year term. Council Members serve staggered terms, with either two or three seats being open for election every two years. The position of Mayor is selected by the City Council on an annual basis in December of each year.
