League Play, Day Camp and Aquatic Programs

Post Date:06/24/2020 4:03 PM

The City remains committed to the overall health and safety of our community. Below are the latest key updates in regards to recreational programming and sports leagues:

Updated as of June 24, 2020

City Day Camp & Aquatic Program

Due to COVID-19, the City of Lake Elsinore has had to make the unfortunate decision to cancel all planned summer programming for this summer. This includes our day camp and aquatics program.

While the City recognizes the value these programs bring to our youth and families, the State's careful approach and unpredictable response in regards to reopening did not allow the City the time needed to recruit and train the staff needed for these programs.

This has been a tough time for so many of our families and our staff. These decisions have not been easy, and most have been mandated by the State.

Sports Leagues - Still Prohibited by the State

Riverside County is currently in Accelerated Stage 2 for reopening. As such, at this time, the State is still prohibiting youth sports and other league play including practices, games and tournaments. Despite the communities frustration, the City must follow the County and State in this regard.

The City remains fully engaged in communicating with local league representatives and we are working with them to ensure they are able to resume practices and games as soon as the State's orders are lifted.

In addition, the City continues to regularly check in with our neighboring cities to ensure we are looking at all options to expand park and recreational opportunities for residents. At this time, none of our neighboring cities are allowing (formally) league play. Rather, teams have been going against the State's orders.

The City's ultimate goal is to allow our kids to be kids, and to get back into our parks, fields, gyms and other outdoor areas so they can get active and create summer memories.

We want to thank our community for their engagement and interest in seeing our leagues back in action. The City will keep urging our regional and state representatives to let our kids play ball once again. We encourage residents to stay connected with us for announcements on other upcoming programming.
