Due to the surge of the Omicron variant, starting Wednesday, January 5, 2022 the City of Lake Elsinore will be closing all of its facilities to the public until further notice. This includes City Hall, the Senior Center, the Dream Extreme Neighborhood Center and the Lake Community. At this time, Launch Pointe will remain open.
The City of Lake Elsinore is taking the necessary precautions to protect its residents and staff. All services are still being offered through the Citizen Self-Service Portal or by calling City Hall at (951) 674-3124.
On Monday, Riverside County added 5,610 new COVID-19 cases since last Thursday. That is up nearly 94% compared to December 27, when 2,899 COVID-19 cases were added since December 23. The COVID-19 transmission rate in Riverside County is estimated to be 1.82, meaning every infected person in the county, on average, is transmitting the virus to nearly two other people. On Monday, the county's case rate was 39.0 per 100,000, and the positivity rate was 10.7%. Since Thursday, both numbers have increased — 33.8 per 100,000 and 9.4% (doubling from last week).
Monday's case and positivity rates are similar to numbers seen during the delta variant surge in the summer months. Riverside County currently has a "high" community transmission rate, which is defined as having more than 100 cumulative cases per 100,000 in the past seven days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's COVID Data Tracker.
The City urges each of us to keep doing our part by wearing a face mask, continuing frequent handwashing, maintaining social distancing, and by not participating in large social gatherings.
