2022 Primary & General Election Information

Election season is here!  The 2022 California Primary Election will take place on June 7, 2022 and the 2022 General Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. 

2022 General Municipal Election:

This year, in November, there will be two (2) seats up for election on the City Council for District 1 and 3.  The Nomination Period for the November 8, 2022 election will open from July 18, 2022 through August 12, 2022. Interested individuals may submit a Pre-Application and request an appointment beginning June 1, 2022.

On February 1, 2018, the City adopted the By-District election process, subdividing the City into five districts. Each district is represented by one seat on the City Council. This year, the City Council adopted new district boundaries, which will be used for the 2022 General Municipal Election. 

The City of Lake Elsinore encourages its residents to get out and vote. Below are some key dates to keep in mind for the election, updates will be made regularly as needed.

Important 2022 Election Dates for General Election on November 8, 2022

  • Resolution Calling the Election: April 26, 2022 
  • Publish Notice of Election: July 4 - July 18
  • Nomination Period: July 18 - August 12 
  • Last Day to File/Withdraw Nomination Papers: August 12
  • Voter Information Guides Mailed To Voters: September 29 - October 1
  • Vote-By-Mail Ballots Mailed: October 10
  • Early Voting Period: October 5 to November 2 
  • Election Day: November 8

2022 California Primary Election

All California active registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot for the June 7, 2022, Primary Election. Your primary Election ballot will include candidates for U.S. Senate, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Controller, Treasurer, Attorney General,  Insurance Commissioner, Member of State Board of Equalization, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, U.S. Representative in Congress, State Senator, State Assembly Member, as well as other local candidates.

Return your vote-by-mail ballot by mail with prepaid postage as long as it's postmarked on or before Election day and received by June 14, 2022, or in-person to a secure ballot drop box, to a voting location or your county elections office by 8:00 p.m. on June 7, 2022.

In-person voting locations will offer voter registration, replacement ballots, accessible voting machines, and language assistance to those who need it.

City Election Information

Lake Elsinore is a General Law city governed by a five-member City Council. Members of the City Council are elected by-district and the City Treasurer is elected at-large for a four-year term.  Council Members serve staggered terms, with either two or three seats being open for election every two years. The position of Mayor is selected by the City Council on an annual basis in December of each year.
