Rosa and Miguel at the Bar
Owners Rose & Miguel Topete

La Unica first opened on Main Street in 1974, offering homemade tortillas and fresh Mexican foods. "My family started this restaurant and its always been a part of my life" says owner Rosa Topete.  With Rosa's and Miguel's encouragement, the family opened the bakery in 1986, specializing in a variety of tasty Mexican pastries and breads.  Everything they made was from scratch with fresh ingredients, a tradition they continue today.

Just as Rosa and Miguel encouraged her parents to open the bakery, sons Ismael and Miguel Jr. encouraged their parents to expand and remodel the restaurant.  Miguel Jr., who graduated from the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, headed the effort and on March 10, 2014, after 14 months of preparation and 7 weeks of work, La Unica Cocina Mexicana Y Cantina held its 40th Anniversary and Grand Opening.  The new look has made a splash on Main Street and customers and nearby business owners are raving about the results.

Every aspect of the rennovation was designed by the family, from the exterior to the interior look and décor.  "Our customers love it and we're seeing many new faces" Rosa said.  The Topete family says their business has increased over 25% since the remodel.

The restaurant now features a full bar with more than 50 tequila choices and specialty cocktails. To go along with the new look, there are also new menu items such as blackened swordfish tacos, Mexican sliders and deep-fried calamari rings. But don't worry, you can still get your long-time favorites of chili verde, mole poblano or fajitas. The new La Unica is also bringing some much needed nighttime entertainment and activities to the downtown. Plans for the future include monthly musical entertainment with bands like Latin Sol, tequila tasting specials and more.

La Unica and the Topete family have been long-time supporters of our local community, their church and our local schools. Most recently, they joined the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce and look forward to taking part in more local events and activities.  The family is extremely grateful and appreciative of the support they have received for their recent renovations.  "One of our proudest moments was the day we celebrated our 40th anniversary.  Lake Elsinore is where we want to be,"  Rosa Topete said.

Congratulations to La Unica Cocina Mexicana Y Cantina , City of Lake Elsinore's
