PROPER DISPOSAL OF MEDICATION AND SHARPS
Most medications are not considered hazardous waste and can be disposed of in regular trash. Remove personal information from all containers before disposal.
FREE Biohazard labels are available at the HHW events or by phone (951) 486-3200 or to print your own sharps labels and instructions, download Biohazard label <> from Riverside County Waste Management. Labels allow residents to make their own approved sharps from a hard sided PLASTIC container like a bleach or laundry detergent bottle with a secure lid. Place a label on the container that identifies - "Biohazard", secure the lid, and tape the container closed. Legislation requires all sharps must be placed in an approved container, beginning in 2008.
SMALL BUSINESS WASTE INFORMATION
Business waste is not accepted at the HHW Collection Program. Businesses can get information on disposal at 1-888-722-4234 or go to Riverside County Environmental Heath website.
HOUSEHOLD BATTERY DISPOSAL DROP BOX
The City of Lake Elsinore is proud to a part of the new Battery Recycling Program sponsored by Western Riverside Council of Governments and funded by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board. This collection program is FREE!!
WHY RECYCLE HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES? By recycling batteries, you are reducing the potential of producing the following problems or hazards:
- Polluting lakes and streams as the metals vaporize into the air when burned
- Contributing to heavy metals that potentially may leak from solid waste landfills
- Exposing the environment and water to lead and acid
Lake Elsinore Senior Center
ALL POSITIVE CONTACTS MUST BE TAPED TO PREVENT SHORTING AND POSSIBLY A FIRE.
Battery Insulator tape is provided at the kiosk, which meets D.O.T. compliant standards for proper insulation of battery contacts. You may tape the ends from home using masking tape or duct tape; even a band aid will work! For more information go to www.NOSPARK.net
