Award Winning Irrigation System
A water saving irrigation system landed The City of Lake
Elsinore an "Innovative City of The Year" award
for the year 1991. The award presented by the Inland Empire
division of League of California Cities recognizes creative
programs that may serve as models to other cities throughout
the state. The system has been in use in Lake Elsinore sense
1988 and will continue to be installed in all city maintained
parks and landscape areas.
The Cities computerized irrigation system has reduced water
consumption by 40% each year. Data from a weather station
located at the city yard, coupled with site specific data
from each park and landscape location, is automatically retrieved
through phone lines by a central computer. This data is used
by the computer to calculate the amount of water needed to
keep plant material living. The computer then calls each park
and landscape location and tells the site how much water to
apply. The system also shuts off water main lines automatically
if a water line or sprinkler breaks. If you would like to
visit the city yard and view our weather station and our computerized
irrigation system, please contact the Lake Elsinore City Yard
at (951)-674-5170 Monday through Thursday from 9AM and 4PM.
