June 20, 2017

June 20, 2017Catfish! Catfish! Catfish! That's the hot bite these days in Lake Elsinore. Fish are coming into the spawning cycle and are being caught in very shallow water. Rock piles, brush piles, and vegetation along the shoreline are prime areas for anglers to target the catfish. Fish are ranging from 2 to 10 lbs using Mackerel Chunks, night crawlers and shrimp.

Bass action has been fair for those willing to spend the time chucking spinnerbaits and crankbaits. The crappie bite is still slow with anglers picking off a few in the early morning.

Carp are also being caught with regularity using dough baits all around the lake.

Tip of the week!

Fly lining (no weight) your bait when fishing in areas with lots of structure will increase your catching-to-snagging ratio considerably! Using a bobber will also eliminate continual snags around structural areas.

Tight lines.....

June 1, 2017

June 1, 2017Caught a couple of nice 18-plus-inch cats last night right before sundown. On the Grand side, south end of the lake across from los panchos. On a side note... while waiting for them to start biting I noticed tons of fry jumping out of the water's edge feeding. That is extremely encouraging.

May 13, 2017 to May 21, 2017

Catfish continuing to bite, taking both Marcel and Shad... all bites took pace during the early morning 5:45 am to 7:30 am.

May 15, 2017

The catfish bite continues to be fair, but cooler weather has slowed the bite for shore and boat anglers. Crappie are still being caught, but not in great numbers as with the large-mouth bass. Nothing to report on Bluegill. Carp bite is red hot all around the lake for anglers using homemade or store-bought dough baits. However; Whiskers beach has been the most productive for those targeting carp.

The bite should pick up as warmer weather approaches and with our anticipated catfish stocking at the end of the month for our annual "Just For Kids Fishing Derby". This free event for kids 16 and younger will be held on June 3rd at the La Laguna Resort and Boat Launch. Visit the city's website to find out more information. Bring the kids out for a great day of fishing!

April 7, 2017

Bob Magee April 7, 2017The catfish bite is really starting to heat up. Fish are ranging from 2 to 8 pounds using Mackerel (Bite-On Mack-bites), shrimp and crawlers. Best bite coming on mackerel. Just ask "Mayor" Bob Magee, who has had the hot stick the last couple of weeks pulling in the kitties. The crappie bite still hasn't taken off yet, but it's still early in the season and water temp is still a little cool at 65 to 66 degrees for them to really go on the chew. Carp action is fair and will definitely get better as warmer weather approaches. Bass action has been picking up as well for those that are able to reach the grass and fence lines and take advantage of those recently stocked fish that are now active and hungry.

Next stocking will be at the end of April. Just in time for the 2017 Dream Extreme Fishing Derby. Get on out and join the fun. For more information contact Williams Bait, Tackle and Boat Rentals at 951-642-0640.
